You, too, Matt Lauer? Has The Today Show host joined the seemingly endless line of famous men who have cheated on their wives? Well, that all depends on whether you believe The National Enquirer. The tabloid reports that Lauer, 52, has walked out on his wife of 12 years, Annette Lauer. And Anette's mom has allegedly confirmed that her son-in-law has cheated and has since left their New York City home.
According to the New York Daily News, Lauer's ex-wife Nancy Alspaugh came forward to the magazine as well: "I heard he and Annette are breaking up," she said. "I was not shocked to hear that, but it's very sad."
The mess all started when Lauer allegedly stood up his wife (and mother of his children, Jack, 8, and Romy, 6, and Thijs, 2) on Valentine's Day to flirt with two female Canadian broadcasters during the 2010 Winter Olympics. Sources claim Lauer "went wild" while he was in Vancouver working, and his wife learned of his antics, causing a huge argument, which ultimately resulted in his leaving.
But is that evidence of infidelity? Well, Annette is reportedly no longer wearing her wedding ring, and an insider claims the two are trying to keep their split private. It isn't the first time the marriage has been on the rocks, according to RadarOnline.com: in 2006, she filed for divorce, "feeling she could no longer trust her husband, but subsequently withdrew the divorce petition after one month."
Despite the cheating rumors, both parties are reportedly still trying to ensure the well-being of their children. "Matt is still very involved in his children's lives," a source says. "He goes to the family apartment after he finishes his Today duties to see the kids and picks them up from school. For their sake, he and Annette plan to continue getting together on weekends and they'll go to their house in the Hamptons."
