Tina Fey is officially working on Mean Girls: The Musical, and we couldn't be more excited.
While on the red carpet at the SAG Awards, the 30 Rock star told E! News that taking Mean Girls to Broadway is high on her to-do list. "I’m trying to develop it with my husband (Jeff Richmond), who does all the music for 30 Rock and I think Paramount is onboard," she says.
So who would bring this film to life on stage? That's the real question! Mean Girls had a great cast and it would blow our minds if the musical's cast was just as good. Luckily, we have a list of our well-thought-out picks, who we're sure would make Mean Girls: The Musical so fetch.
1. Lea Michele as Cady Heron
Does anyone know how to play a the victim-gone-mean girl as good as Rachel Berry herself? Lea Michele already has a history on Broadway, so it makes sense that she would return one day. After all, how many more years of Glee does she really have in her?
2. Amanda Seyfried as Karen Smith
Sure, Amanda Seyfried is at the high point of her career right now, but does that mean that she can't take the time to at least do the first run of Mean Girls: The Musical? She proved in Les Miserables that she can sing, so why not put that voice to good use as her character from the film. After all, no one can do Karen Smith quite like Seyfried.
3. Mariah Carey as Mrs. George
Okay, this was totally Tina Fey's pick for Mrs. George, as she discussed with E! on SAG night, but we couldn't think of a better fit to play Regina George's "cool mom." She and Nicki Minaj recently had a fight about Mean Girls trivia on American Idol so we already know that Mimi is a huge fan. "Mariah seemed to really know all the characters," Fey tells E!.
4. Idina Menzel as Ms. Norbury
Idina Menzel and Michele already proved they have great chemistry on Glee, so why not take that relationship to Broadway and have Menzel play Fey's role in the musical? Plus, call us suckers but we'd see Menzel in anything.
5. Selena Gomez as Gretchen Wieners
So, the adorable starlet and Lacey Chabert, the original Gretchen, having similar high-pitched voices and looks necessary to play the insecure rich girl. We know Selena can sing and she can totally pull off Gretchen's many minis and head-to-toe leather sexy kitty costume for Halloween. Does she have what it takes to play the town gossip? Of course! Plus, if you'll recall, Gretchen had an on-again/off-again boyfriend named Jason she just couldn't shake -- sound familiar?
6. Taylor Swift as Regina George
What a better time for Taylor Swift to make her debut on the Great White Way! She obviously has the pipes to carry a musical and the Regina George-signature blonde hair -- and who wouldn't love to witness this good girl go bad? Plus, seeing her buddy up with Selena Gomez on stage would pretty much mean everything to us. We can only imagine she would be able to manage being the head of the Plastics seeing as though T-Swift's many revenge songs are her mini-versions of the famous Burn Book.
7. Honorable Mention: Lindsay Lohan as Regina George
Too much to ask? Maybe, but Lindsay Lohan is an integral part to the Mean Girls legacy. Since she has really turned into one of Hollywood's bad girls since filming the movie, it would be amazing if she went back to blonde and became the queen bee. So her voice isn't that great and she's probably the least reliable person in Hollywood, but can you imagine what this would do for her career? Forget the disaster that was Liz & Dick -- this would be the best comeback we could ever imagine.
