Meet Amanda of The Biggest Loser

Name: Amanda
Hometown: Butler, NJ
Occupation: Patient care technician
Favorite cheat food: Chinese food
Goal for 2010: To fit into skinny jeans!
Starting weight: 250
Elimination weight: --

NSD: What was your big turning point-either during the show or before that made you realize you needed to lose the weight?
After missing my prom, I realized I was done with letting my weight control my life. I was a young girl and there were so many fun things I wanted to do and experience, but I found myself constantly making excuses, and I finally got so tired of that. That's when I decided that I needed help immediately.

NSD: What is one thing you wish you had known before going on The Biggest Loser?
I wish I would have known how to love myself because then I could have started this journey a little differently. But, it wasn't until about halfway through the season when I had conversations with both Bob and Jillian and they both made me come to the realization that I needed to change. Since then I have grown up and accepted change, and now I am so sincerely happy and content with myself.  I was able to leave the ranch admitting that I truly loved myself for the first time in my entire life.

NSD: If you could have done one thing differently during the show, what would it be?
I wish I could have stopped my head from telling me that I couldn't do certain things when I definitely could have. It's that "I can't" mentality that, for awhile, messed me up hardcore. Once I finally let that go and made the realization that I COULD do this, and I COULD do that, things all of a sudden got a little easier.4. What was the hardest thing to adapt to while being on the ranch?

NSD: What was the hardest thing to adapt to while being on the ranch?
Just being away from family and friends, and being so secluded from the world with no phones, computers, or televisions.  It's like you're put in a bubble with only the cast and crew and that's all you ever know for the entire time you're there.  But everyone ends up like family, and in the end I remember crying right before leaving the ranch because all of a sudden I realized the many wonderful things the ranch did for me, and I was scared to get back into the real world.

NSD: What is one thing that keeps you motivated?
When I look at my new clothes or at pictures of myself, I get so motivated.  It's hard because I don't recognize myself in pictures.  And, right now I'm in a size 12 pair of jeans! I never thought in a million years I would be wearing those!

NSD: What is your favorite workout?
My favorite workout is a cardio run-down on the treadmill. You run for 10 minutes, walk for 2, run for 8 minutes, walk for 2, run for 6, walk for 2, run for 4, walk for 2, and then run for 2, and walk for 2.  Do this as many times as possible and it ends up being an intense cardio workout and I always feel the burn immediately!

NSD: What's the best advice Bob or Jillian has given you?
They both gave me the same advice. Just to believe in myself, to never forget who that "fat girl" was, but to stop letting her hinder me from rising above and reaching the top now. It was because of all their advice and support that I was able to finally admit how much I truly loved myself now, and how confident and happy I am!

NSD: What is your favorite meal or snack?
My favorite meal is Eggplant and Spaghetti Squash with Organic Marinara Sauce. It is by far my favorite thing to make at home and I love it!

NSD: What happens behind the scenes of the show that no one would know from watching it?
That those last chance workouts are harder then they look!  On TV, they only play for a short segment, but we actually filmed a three to four hour brutal last chance workout each week.  Everything we do on the show is 100 percent real and requires really hard work.

NSD: What did you do for fun while you were on the ranch?
I enjoyed hiking a lot. I had never been hiking in my entire life, but we had this trail on the property called "The Ridge" and we would walk it, jog it, run it, do what ever we wanted to do. When you reached the top of the mountain, the view was gorgeous, and it was always worth it to make it to the top.
