It's a bird. It's a plane. It's...Henry Cavill!
The Tudors star, 27, has been cast as the Man of Steel in the upcoming Superman movie, set to be released in Dec. 2012.
"In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen," director Zack Snyder said in a statement released Sunday. "I also join Warner Bros. and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield."
Before this big break, Cavill has pretty much flown under the radar. He had been considered for the blockbuster roles of Batman, James Bond and even the previous version of Superman (which went to another relative unknown, Brandon Routh). He will be seen next in Immortals, starring alongside Mickey Rourke, Freida Pinto and Kellan Lutz.
