The CW has a new young star in the making! AnnaSophia Robb has been cast to play a young Carrie Bradshaw -- the role Sarah Jessica Parker made famous on HBO's long-running hit series, Sex and the City -- in The Carrie Diaries.
Years before she met Big or her three Manhattan BFFs -- Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte -- Bradshaw was a teen living in a small town and hoping for a more exciting (and stylish) future. Based on author Candace Bushnell's young adult prequel to Sex and the City, The Carrie Diaries follows adolescent Carrie as she tries to navigate high school in the 1980s.
Robb, 18, is a veteran child actress who appeared in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Race to Witch Mountain. She made a splash alongside a young Josh Hutcherson in the critically acclaimed 2007 adaptation of Bridge to Terabithia. More recently, the young actress starred in the inspirational drama Soul Surfer. Next, she plays Wendy in Pan, an upcoming modernization of Peter Pan.
According to Variety, the show is produced by Gossip Girl execs Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. It will also star Stefania Owen as Carrie's rebellious 14-year-old sister, Dorrit. No other casting decisions have been announced.
Do you think AnnaSophia has what it takes to fill Carrie's shoes, pre-Manolo Blahniks?
