Ever since she hit the silver screen, 49-year old Meg Ryan has stood in Hollywood’s spotlight as one of America’s sweethearts. Her fairy-tale romantic comedies gave everyone hope at finding true love and living happily ever after. In real life things aren’t so simple for Meg, whose love life seems to be on a scandalous rollercoaster with rumors she caused the split between John Mellencamp and wife of 18 years, Elaine!
Meg’s 10-year marriage to Dennis Quaid ended in 2001 when news surfaced she cheated on him with bad boy Russell Crowe. Now she’s caught in the middle of another romance-gone-wrong with John. The 59-year-old rocker recently announced the end of his marriage to his model wife, and though reasons for their split haven’t been publicized, many are speculating a blossoming romance between Meg and John is to blame. But John’s not so innocent in the love department — Elaine, 41, is his third wife. In fact, he has five children from his trio of marriages; Michelle from first wife Priscilla, daughters Teddi Jo and Justice from second spouse Victoria and sons Hud, 16, and Speck, 15, from Elaine.
Caught on camera walking arm-in-arm with John in NYC this past October, Meg has only fueled romance rumors by being spotted backstage enjoying his company at a couple of his recent US tour dates. Although she’s said to be collaborating with John on the musical Ghost Brothers of Darkling County, it looks like her romantic reputation is taking a serious nose dive.
According to PEOPLE magazine the pair have also been spotted having coffee at Espresso Love, one of Ryan’s favorite spots on Martha’s Vineyard, and grocery shopping at Gourmet Garage in New York’s SoHo neighborhood – where observers say they seemed happy and at ease.
"She usually comes in by herself or with her daughter. I thought that was her husband because they seemed comfortable and familiar with each other, just like an old married couple," one observer tells PEOPLE.
Update: RadarOnline.com has a photo of Meg, John and Elaine having dinner together in New York City after John’s March 2008 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It seems like the ladies were friends before the marriage was broken up — what a slap in the face to Elaine!
