Eminem/Rihanna, Love the Way You Lie
Eminem is certainly no stranger to controversy. The rapper, who has done his fair share of shocking music videos before ("Stan," anyone?), has released the video for his new single "Love the Way You Lie" -- and needless to say, this time he's playing with fire. Quite literally.
"Love the Way You Lie" tackles the hot-button issue of domestic abuse, both physical and emotional. The weighty topic is made especially poignant, as the song features Rihanna, who's become the public face of domestic violence.
But, Rihanna isn't the only familiar face in the startling video. Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan play a couple in a tumultuous relationship who fight, steal, drink, and heat things up with some intense makeout sessions. In a recent interview with MTV, Monaghan explained, "We're supposed to be desperately in love, like Sid and Nancy, John and Yoko ... Eminem and Kim (referring to Eminem's rocky relationship with his ex-wife Kim Mathers)."
The video begins with Rihanna standing outside of a house on fire, as she sings, "Just gonna stand there and watch me burn?/Well, that's all right/Because I like the way it hurts." We then find Fox and Monaghan together in bed and watch a terribly dysfunctional relationship progressively unravel, sometimes violently.
Most of Eminem's scenes, however, show the rapper standing out in a quiet field, away from the mayhem. In some of the scenes of the video, we see both Em and Rihanna together in front of the blaze.
The Grammy-winning rapper told People of the video, "(Director) Joseph (Kahn) and I worked pretty closely together to make sure we got this right. Trying to make this tough subject work visually is a challenge. It was great to have Rihanna, Megan and Dominic on board for this. They really brought it and made this video super-powerful."
MTV reports that Fox donated all of the money she made from the video to Sojourn House, a shelter for abused women.
