2006: Mel Gibson Goes Mad


When a speeding Mel Gibson was pulled over on Pacific Coast Highway on July 28, 2006, he bragged to police that he was untouchable because he "owned Malibu." It turns out that he was wrong. After failing a field sobriety test, the former action hero was taken into custody where he spit out a shocking anti-Semitic diatribe. Though the ensuing bad publicity shattered Mel's clean-cut image, he insisted he was not a bigot. "It was just the stupid rambling of a drunkard, you know," the actor, who pleaded no contest to DUI charges, told Diane Sawyer after the incident. "The last thing I want to be is that kind of monster."
