CBS is losing their star power at alarming rates. On the heels of the departures of Liz Vassey (CSI), A.J. Cook (Criminal Minds) and Eddie Cibrian (CSI: Miami) from the network, CSI: NY's resident detective Melina Kanakaredes has announced that she is leaving the series she's called home for the last six years.
"I made some amazing and lifelong friendships during my six seasons on CSI: NY and I will treasure them forever!" the original cast member, who plays Detective Stella Bonasera, said in a statement.
CBS Television Network and CBS Television Studios had nothing but well wishes for their star, and said in a joint television statement: "We hoped Melina would return to CSI: NY for another season, but we respect her decision to move on. Her amazing talent and invaluable contribution to the success of the series are greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten. She will forever remain a friend to the network and studio and we wish her the very best."
So, will Kanakaredes' costar Gary Sinise be taking on all the scary city cases by himself? Doubtful, but a replacement for the actress has not been announced.
