Following her diagnosis in 2005, the singer-songwriter with a rebel image and a tendency toward political activism talked to NBC Dateline’s Stone Phillips about finding a lump in her breast: “It was rather large. And I didn't know why I hadn't noticed it the day before. But it was just this day that it was right here and very noticeable. And I touched it and there's something in your soul. You're like, this is different." Since her lumpectomy and chemotherapy treatment, the 49-year-old mom of four has been cancer free. She spent 2010 touring to promote her 10th studio album, Fearless Love and recently separated from wife Tammy Lynn Etheridge.
