WATCH: Melissa McCarthy Recounts Embarrassing Spanx Story

The Bridesmaids actress tells Ellen DeGeneres all about a mortifying wardrobe malfunction that happened far from the red carpet

Melissa McCarthy had a memorably embarrassing fashion moment in Bridesmaids -- and it turns out that she's had a few in real life, too!

On Friday's The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the 41-year-old Emmy winner described a time when she inadvertently flashed her Spanx to an entire crew of construction workers. Watch below!

As McCarthy told host Ellen DeGeneres, she was getting ready to report to the set of her sitcom Mike & Molly when she remembered that she was supposed to bring her shapewear to work. She quickly pulled the Spanx on, got dressed, grabbed her bags and went out the door. But when she stopped to say "hi" to some guys who were fixing her fence, she noticed they were all giving her funny looks -- and keeping their eyes at the top of her head. That's when she looked down and realized what was wrong.

"My sweater is now up around here," she said, pointing to her belly-button. "Nothing but flesh-colored Spanx (to my knees), bare kneecaps, and then my pants are down somewhere around my calves. But I couldn't feel it, because I felt the Spanx!"

"How did you not feel that?" DeGeneres marveled.

"Apparently I'm dead from the knee down," joked McCarthy, who blamed the mishap on trying to juggle so many bags.

"I barely wear a short sleeve, and here I am pantless, in front of these guys, in nude-colored Spanx... I couldn't do anything, so I just pulled up my pants, got in the car, and turned beet red," recalled the actress. At least she can laugh about it now!

The fearless funny lady, who knocked 'em dead on SNL in October, has an original series and a Judd Apatow film in the works, and was just named the new face of Ivory soap. In other words: Just like those guys working on McCarthy's fence, we'll soon be seeing a lot more of her!
