Here's some news you can file in the "duh" folder. A recent Australian survey found that women are more attracted to men with facial hair. (Although there are always exceptions to the rule. We’re looking at you, Spencer Pratt.) And the men included said that they actually feel more handsome when they’re sprouting some scruff. Plus, according to the research, both guys and gals believe hirsute fellas have more sex!
"Don't underestimate the ability of facial hair to enhance a guy's appearance. Well-groomed facial hair can make a guy look more distinguished and mature," says Amy Komorowski, Men’s Celebrity Grooming Expert and AXE Hair Spokestylist.
This doesn’t mean men can throw out their razors. Their face manes should be tamed a la Brody Jenner and Bradley Cooper, not Joaquin Phoenix circa his ill-advised rap star days. Komorowski shares some advice on how your man can stay perfectly rough and rugged. (Hint: Forward this or print and tape to the bathroom mirror!):
- Find a good barber to professionally trim the facial hair, then maintain the shape at home with a good trimmer. Adjust the settings on the trimmer to keep hair at a desired length -- whether that’s stubble, scruff or a full beard. Use a small comb or a coarse boar's hair toothbrush to keep hair smooth and neat.
- And, don’t forget to keep hair below the jawline clean! For the back of the neck, keep the hairline even and well-blended by using either a regular razor or the first setting on the trimmer to keep hairs tight to the neck.
- Use the same shampoo and conditioner as you do on your head to keep your beard clean and well conditioned. Facial hair can be a bit more coarse and unruly, so extra conditioner might be needed.
