Meredith Vieira's New Role? Filmmaker!

The soon-to-be departing co-anchor of Today sets her sights on the Cannes Film Festival where her first feature film premieres

Meredith Vieira, who recently announced she would leave her co-anchor perch on the Today show in June, can now add filmmaker to her impressive list of credentials. Return, the first feature film produced by Vieira's production company, Meredith Vieira Productions, premieres at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in the French Riviera on Saturday.

The mother of three recently spoke with iVillage about the film, and said she feels like she is having another baby -- only for this delivery there’s nothing for the pain. "They don't give you an epidural for this one," she joked.

Return is the fictional account of a female soldier’s return from a tour of duty. "We certainly believe in it and that’s what matters," Vieira told iVillage’s Chief Correspondent Kelly Wallace when asked if she was nervous about how the film would ultimately be received. "But yeah, it is your child, it’s everybody’s child. It really did take a village to create Return."

The film stars Linda Cardellini of ER fame, Mad Men’s John Slattery and Michael Shannon (HBO's Boardwalk Empire and the film Revolutionary Road).

Watch the video below as Vieira talks about how at different moments in her career she could relate to Return's main character, who Vieria says feels "the ground shifting beneath her."
