Meredith Vieira Is Coming Back to Daytime! (So Who's NOT Getting a Talk Show This Year?)

The Today show veteran joins a long list of ladies vying to be the next Oprah this year. But not everyone is fit for that title!

Someone must have told Meredith Vieira that we miss her. On Tuesday, NBCUniversal announced that the TV journalist will be returning to daytime with her own syndicated talk show, The Meredith Vieira Show. In a press statement, Vieira, 59, explained how her previous TV experiences have led to this new venture.

"As a journalist on Today and 60 Minutes, I learned how to really listen to people and help give them a voice. On The View, I unleashed my own opinionated self and discovered the empowerment that comes with sometimes heated, but always respectful, discussion. And on (Who Wants to Be a) Millionaire, I relished the joy of changing people’s lives while having pure fun,” said Vieira. “All of these experiences... share one common denominator… this fundamental need we have to connect with and find inspiration in each other.”

A 14-time Emmy winner, Vieira has always been great at being both authoritative and relatable -- much like Oprah Winfrey, minus the spiritual edge. She's a natural for a daytime talk show. However, she's also got plenty of competition. The other pretenders to Oprah's throne include Queen Latifah (The Queen Latifah Show, premiering September 16), Kris Jenner (Kris, premiering July 15), plus returning successes Bethenny Frankel (Bethenny) and Katie Couric (Katie). (Side note: Isn't it kind of weird that talk shows always have to be named after the host? Aren't they ever tempted to call their programs something like The Best Show You'll See at 2pm?)

So yeah, basically, every popular woman over 40 is getting into the talk show game -- almost. Here are 4 celebrities we're guessing won't be given their own show any time soon.

Paula Deen - For years, people paid her to stuff food in her mouth; now they're more likely to pay her to close it.

Ramona Singer - It's kind of fun to picture the Real Housewives of New York star hosting a talk show, because she'd almost definitely just talk over her guests the whole time.

Kate Gosselin - It's not for lack of trying! Kate Gosselin has guest-hosted every chat show that will have her, but as a lifestyle guru, the control-freak mother of eight falls short.

Courtney Love - We have just one thing to say to network executives: We would watch this show. We would watch it so hard.
