Meryl Streep

Nomination: Best Actress for The Iron Lady

We haven't done the actual math, but each time Meryl Streep takes a role, there's probably a 25 percent chance she'll receive an Oscar nomination for it. To score her record-setting 17th nod (the most of any actor ever), she simply donned a wig, a set of awful fake teeth and some pearls... and delivered a spot-on portrayal of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, a woman she respects despite disagreeing with her politics. "It was interesting to me to look at the human being behind the headlines," Streep, 62, told the press after winning a Golden Globe for the role, "to imagine what it's like to a live a life so huge, controversial, and groundbreaking in the winter of that life, and to have sort of a compassionate view for someone with whom I disagree."
