'The Deer Hunter'

The 1978 drama The Deer Hunter tells the Vietnam War-era story of three steel workers, one of whom (Christopher Walken) proposes to Linda, Streep's character, a pensive beauty who also inspires romantic feelings in Robert De Niro's character. The first major film role for the Yale School of Drama graduate, Streep received Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations for Best Supporting Actress.
