In the new movie-based-on-a-comic Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (in theaters Aug. 13), Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) must battle his dream girl's (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) exes -- most notably her former beau Gideon (Jason Schwartzman) -- to win her heart.

In real life, Cera and Schwartzman haven't had to do any fighting for love: their secret weapon is their sense of humor. "I'm married now, so it definitely works to be funny," Schwartzman, 30, tells iVillage in an exclusive interview. (The actor recently revealed to Jimmy Kimmel that he and designer wife Brady Cunningham are expecting their first child in December.)

And besides his humor skills, the single Cera has picked up some other tips to impress the ladies -- like learning how to fist-pump and get Pauly D.'s blowout -- after hanging with the reality-show crew of Jersey Shore during a publicity stunt back in January. "I think they were a little cautious of me at first," says the 22-year-old actor. "I showed up and they were like, 'Who's this pale guy and where does he tan? Where doesn't he tan?'"

Watch our exclusive video above to find out how Cera got a crash course in the art of tanning from the Jersey Shore cast and how he and Schwartzman brought their comic book characters to life in Scott Pilgrim
