Michael Douglas likes to play a cad in the movies -- but when it comes to wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, he's a knight in shining armor. On Thursday, Douglas, 66, and Jones, 41, were walking from a car to their London hotel when they were mobbed by paparazzi. When one of the photographers got a little too close to his wife, Douglas gave him a talking-to he'll never forget. Watch the video below!
With all the flashbulbs going off, it's difficult to see what's happening in the video -- but you can clearly hear Zeta-Jones saying "How dare you punch me? I want a police officer right now! He punched me!" Hotel security seems ready to take care of things, but Douglas stands in the doorway, staring down the photographers until he identifies the attacker -- and when he does, it looks like he's ready to beat the daylights out of him. Fortunately for the paparazzo, security quickly reigns in the incensed actor.
Michael Douglas's defense of his wife is made even more heroic by the fact that he's still recovering from cancer. The Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps star began treatment for advanced stage IV throat cancer in August. On January 11 of this year, he announced that the tumor was gone, but he had lost 32 pounds due to the intense treatments. He plans to return to the movies next year, starring opposite Matt Damon in a biopic about legendary pianist Liberace.
Douglas accompanied Zeta-Jones to London to watch her receive a royal honor, the C.B.E. (Commander of the Order of the British Empire), from Prince Charles on Friday. The couple brought along their two children -- and, other than the paparazzi incident, Douglas's rep says "the trip and the ceremony were fabulous and such a joy for everyone."
