After eight weeks of intense chemotherapy and radiation, Michael Douglas is coming to the end of his throat cancer treatment. With only one session left this week, his publicist says "no further treatments are scheduled."
Douglas' recovery is expected to take an additional six weeks, and then the 66-year-old actor will have to go in for periodic check-ups.
"He's really happy about it ending," his rep, Allen Burry, told People.com.
Though Douglas' treatments can make swallowing painful and eating difficult, Burry says the actor "was determined not to have a feeding tube, and he didn't have to have one."
But the Oscar winner isn't letting his condition keep him spending quality time with his family, as Douglas was spotted walking his daughter to school on Tuesday.
"He's just finishing up his treatment," his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones told reporters last week. "He's holding up very, very well and everyone could not be happier with the progress. He's doing fine thanks. He's strong and the doctors are so happy and he's just about to complete -- what anyone who's gone through it knows - a pretty grueling eight weeks."
