Michael Douglas Is Determined to Beat Cancer

The Oscar-winning actor says he's "very optimistic" about his battle with throat cancer

Earlier this month, Michael Douglas revealed that he is battling throat cancer. Now, the Oscar-winning actor is opening up about the fight of his life in the new issue of People.

"I'll beat this," the 65-year-old told the magazine, of the malignant tumor found by doctors.

Douglas, who is married to actress to Catherine Zeta-Jones, talks about how the cancer diagnosis has affected his family, including their two children, Dylan, 10, and Carys, 7.

The actor is set to undergo eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy. He is expected to make a full recovery. "I am very optimistic," Douglas said in a statement.

His new film, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, opens on Sept. 24.
