Can we trust Benjamin Linus? That's one of the (many!) questions Lost fans wonder about, over and over. "Ben occasionally tells a half-truth, but he's not really a liar," says Michael Emerson -- who has played the nefarious Ben for nearly four years -- in an exclusive iVillage interview. "I don't think he's a good liar. He's a great improviser," says Emerson. "Sometimes his head is just in a different place than other, more conventionally truthful people's are." How's that for some fancy rationalization about one of TV's most vexing villains!
Lost's sixth and final season has only just begun, but Ben, the master manipulator, now finds himself being manipulated. However, the 45-year-old actor says not to count his character out: Now that Ben knows he's been taken advantage of, "that doesn't mean that the plan isn't in place, and it doesn't meant that the wheels aren't turning, and that he's looking for that opening through which he can rise again and take control of events."
And in typical Lost fashion, Emerson promises that the show will continue "to ask as many questions as it answers. I don't know when, or if, it will ever stop doing that."
Watch our exclusive interview with Michael Emerson to find out why he likes playing the bad guy, how fans react to him in person and how Lost's end will benefit his relationship with his wife, actress Carrie Preston.
'Lost' airs Tuesdays at 9 pm on ABC.
