A Star is Born

August 29, 1958: Michael Joseph Jackson, the seventh of nine brothers and sisters, springs into the world and into the Gary, Indiana home of mama Katherine and papa Joseph. It's a chaotic household, and Jackson, his siblings and biographers will later tell countless tales of Joseph's emotional and physical abuse, including one harrowing story about Joseph beating young Michael while holding him upside down by one foot.
