HIStory

Jackson attempted a comeback in 1995 with HISstory: Past, Present and Future, Book I, a double-album that included his greatest hits and new tunes. The set sold 18 million copies worldwide, and featured Jackson collaborations with his sister Janet on "Scream," as well as contributions by Notorious B.I.G., Boyz II Men, Shaquille O'Neal and famed producers Dallas Austin and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. But, as Jackson's music continued to be overshadowed by the mounting controversies in his personal life, HIStory's success was also overshadowed by the video for "You Are Not Alone," which featured a naked Jacko and Lisa Marie Presley, and the lyrics of the song "They Don't Care About Us," which led to charges that Jackson was anti-Semitic. Overall, the album's new material was darker than Jackson's past tunes, as the HIStory tunes dealt largely with Jackson's bitterness about the molestation charges and the way he felt he'd been treated by the media.
