1988 marked the release of Jackson's first autobiography, Moonwalk, which he spent four years writing. In it, he recalled his abusive childhood, his experiences with his brothers in The Jackson 5 and his many body changes, which he 'fessed up were the result of surgeries, puberty, a vegetarian diet, a hairstyle change and stage lighting. The book was a hit on the New York Times bestsellers list, and even spawned a movie, Moonwalker, that starred Jackson, Sean Lennon and Joe Pesci.
