Lindsay Lohan's father Michael has vowed to stop talking to the media about his famous daughter -- but apparently, that pledge doesn't apply to other people's daughters. Since Michael is on speaking terms with Lindsay (after over a year of being given the silent treatment), he seems to think he's an authority on the do's and don'ts of Hollywood fatherhood. Now that Demi Lovato has checked herself into rehab -- and her estranged father has expressed his concern to the media -- Michael Lohan would like to have a few words with him.
"There are two reasons why I have no respect for people who talk or comment about others," Lohan told PopEater when asked to advise Lovato's dad. "First, it's because, in most cases, those individuals are looking from the outside in, and they are passing judgment or commenting on people they know nothing about. The second reason is because they are too cowardly to say it to the person themselves."
Funny -- that "advice" to Patrick Lovato sounds a lot more like it's about Michael Lohan. Let's do a quick comparison of the two dads, shall we?
Patrick Lovato: Estranged from daughter Demi since -- well, practically since she was born. Sees her every few years. Told RadarOnline that the pressures of Hollywood had gotten to his daughter, but that she was tough enough to get through it.
Michael Lohan: Estranged from daughter Lindsay since he and her mother divorced in 2005. Has spoken to the media on a near-constant basis about his daughter and ex-wife since then. When Lindsay stopped speaking to him, began holding press conferences about her drug problems.
So it's clear that these two guys have one big thing in common: they have a contentious relationship with their very young, very famous daughters. Neither dad has been close to his daughter in a very long time. But seriously, what right does Michael Lohan have to judge Patrick Lovato? Lovato made one generic statement to the media in support of his daughter. Lohan spent years telling the media about his daughter's personal life, habits and relationships.
The problem with Michael Lohan was that he seemed to be enjoying the media attention more than he seemed to be concerned about Lindsay. Patrick Lovato may be in no position to comment on Demi's life -- he didn't even know she was in rehab until RadarOnline called him -- but as far as we can tell, he's not using her problems to get press for himself. At least, he's not following in Lohan's footsteps trying to get a reality show. (We hope.)
Since Michael Lohan likes advice so much, we have some advice for him: Stop talking to the media. Period. If he wants to give tips to other Hollywood dads, he can take his own advice and "say it to the person themselves." Until then, he's just the pot calling the kettle obnoxious.
