Will Michael Phelps Do 'Dancing with the Stars'? "I'm Not Ruling It Out"

Days after Ryan Lochte said he wouldn't mind competing against his frenemy on the dance floor, Phelps responds by saying he's open to it

Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte may have left the pool, but they're not done trying to outscore each other. Both Olympians have responded favorably to the possibility of competing on an upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars. First, Lochte said he'd like to go up against his swimming rival on the dance show. "I mean since I am so used to competing against Michael Phelps, yeah, I'd have him on the show," he told a reporter.

And now Phelps, too, has weighed in. "I haven't really been known for my dancing. I know everyone who's done it -- I've talked to Apolo [Ohno] and Natalie [Coughlin] about it, and they said they've enjoyed it and had a blast," Phelps said. "I won't say I'm ruling anything out, who knows?"

It actually sounds like Coughlin has already urged Phelps to take up the quest for Mirror Ball glory. "Natalie and I have been on a lot of teams together," Phelps said. "She literally couldn't stop talking about how much fun the show was."

But while Coughlin is one of the most decorated female swimmers in Olympic history, she's one of the few Olympians whose sporting success didn't translate well onto the dance floor. (She came in 10th place during season 9.)

In fact, three of the DWTS champions have been Olympic medalists. Gymnast Shawn Johnson (who will be back for the upcoming All-Stars season!), figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi and speed skater Ohno all won the Mirror Ball Trophy -- during seasons 8, 6 and 4, respectively. Soccer star Hope Solo made it to the semifinals of season 13, while figure skater Evan Lysacek took second place during season 10, and sprinter Maurice Green made it into the top 5 of Season 7.

Odds are, both Phelps and Lochte could find their way around the dance floor and we already know these super cute swimmers are very competitive, especially when pitted against each other! And how cool would it be to see them in a dance off? "Nothing is in the works yet," a show source told TODAY.com. "But rest assured, either (Lochte or Phelps) -- or even better, both of them -- would be welcome in the ballroom."

Now that would be a golden opportunity for DWTS.
