Dude! Don't bogart that pipe!
Olympic phenomenon Michael Phelps got caught on camera indulging in a little pot smoking -- and now the 14-time medal winner is saying he's sorry for the misstep.
"I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment," Michael said in a statement released to the Associated Press. "I'm 23 years old and despite the successes I've had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again."
The photos were taken in November at a University of South Carolina house party -- and the Olympics committee is none too happy with Mikey's choice of recreational activities, saying they were "disappointed" in his behavior.
"Michael has acknowledged that he made a mistake and apologized for his actions," the statement continued. "We are confident that, going forward, Michael will consistently set the type of example we all expect from a great Olympic champion."
So, what do you think? Should Michael lose his slew of endorsement deals?
Personally, I think that his foray into weed, though still illegal, doesn't change the fact that they guy is an animal in the pool -- and despite his probable desire to eat some Lucky Charms and take a nap -- he still rocked the Olympics in Beijing. But I'm pretty open-minded.
