Dealing with Vices

"Malia's is juice. She really desperately loves juice. And we've had this conversation about how important juice is and how happy it makes her. So I've suggested to her … that she cut her juice in half, that first of all she drinks water first when she's thirsty and not just juice. And then, when she has the juice, do like one-third seltzer water or water just to cut the sugar content and get herself weaned off of that sugary taste. And she actually started doing that and realizing that when she’s thirsty, if the first thing she goes to is water, by the time she gets to the juice she just doesn’t want that much.

Barack, his [vice] is chips and salsa and guacamole. If there are chips and salsa, he really can't stop eating those. For me, it's French fries, which is good because you can't just have French fries around, so that's helpful. But if there are French fries in the vicinity, I'm done. It's over.

And for Sasha, gosh, what's Sasha's little vice? She's kind of a free for all.

So we all have our little things that we love. And again, my motto in our household is that if 90 percent of our diet is healthy, that … 10 percent just doesn't kill you."
