Michelle Obama in Google+ Chat Re: Her Girls: "We Never Talk About Weight"

The first lady, in her first-ever Google+ chat, reveals she never talks about weight with her girls, and how "intimidating" it was to present at the Oscars.

In the last two weeks, First Lady Michelle Obama did her first-ever "mom dance" skit on national television and made an unprecedented appearance for a first lady at the Oscars. Well, now she can add another first to her list -- participating in her first-ever Google+ hangout!

Fielding questions from two moms, a dad, an advocate for healthy families -- and some darling third graders from Brewer, Maine during a chat moderated by Kelly Ripa of Live with Kelly & Michael, Mrs. Obama revealed she never discusses the issue of weight with Malia, 14, and Sasha, 11.

"We never talk about weight," she said as she continues to mark the third anniversary of her Let's Move anti-childhood obesity initiative. "I make it a point. I don't want our children to be weight-obsessed. I want them to be focused on... what do I have to do to be the healthiest that I can be."

Watch Mrs. Obama's first-ever Google+ Hangout:

Even when she and her family started making some changes years ago -- less juice for example, more fruits and vegetables, "I never talked about weight in the household. We just started making changes and we made changes in a way that didn't make them feel badly about themselves."

Asked her advice for parents who don't have a safe area outside to take their kids to play, she said moms and dads -- and school administrators -- need to get "creative." "One of the things I do with my kids, I turn on the radio and we will dance and work up a sweat for a good 30 or 40 minutes. They laugh at me, they have a good time, but at the same time they're moving," she said.

The Oscars: "Pretty Intimidating!"'

While the first lady told me during an interview on TODAY and iVillage last week that the criticism she faced after her Oscars appearance is "part of the culture" in a 24/7 social media world, she did admit, during her live chat, that she had a good case of the butterflies going into it.

"It was absolutely nerve-racking because it was live and nobody knew we were doing it," said Mrs. Obama. "I was a little more nervous than I thought I'd be. I thought I'd drop the envelope. I thought I'd get the name wrong. It was just a very awesome moment... It was pretty intimidating but I got through it."

Bo Needs His Exercise Too!

Mrs. Obama said President Obama jokes that the first dog, Bo, is not very active but said he does get out every day. Malia and Sasha have to walk him every night after the family sits down for dinner. "That's part of their ritual, they have to go outside. We usually have to say, 'Don't come right back," she said echoing something many parents with pets probably have to tell their kids as well.

Her Favorite Dance Move?

A Maine third-grader revealed his favorite dance move was "raise the roof" and asked the first lady what hers might be. "Well, it's obviously 'The Dougie," she said with a laugh, as she demonstrated the move that was part of her now infamous dance skit with Jimmy Fallon that has gone viral. (For those who don't know what "The Dougie" is think moving your hand near or on the hair on your own head!) "Can you guys do a little 'Dougie?"

Of course, the kids -- and the moms and dads -- weren't going to say no to the first lady, bringing a pretty darling end to this first-ever Google+ chat by Mrs. O!
