Michelle Obama's "Midlife Crisis": A Risk Worth Taking!

The first lady's decision to cut her bangs isn't the only bold choice she's made

If you've been wondering what prompted Michelle Obama to cut her bangs, you're not alone. The FLOTUS has finally revealed why she changed her hairdo, and the answer is as awesome as we would have hoped: It was her midlife crisis.

"I couldn't get a sports car. They won't let me bungee-jump. So instead, I cut my bangs," she tells Rachael Ray on The Rachael Ray Show. "I can do this. This is all mine," she adds, motioning to her hair.

While we're pretty sure she could get away with buying a (reasonably priced) roadster if she really wanted to, we're glad that Obama decided she needed to take a little risk. That's not to say she hasn't in the past, though. It might be her husband Barack Obama who is making changes in the White House, but Michelle has done a lot to affect how we act as a culture.

Obama is a big proponent of healthy eating and exercise, and she's trying to encourage the nation to live healthier, using her own family as an example. While that doesn't seem like an especially risky move, consider the fact that 35.7 percent of American adults are considered obese. Who says she's not punching above her weight (pun intended)?

"Obviously, people know that exercise is important. For me, it's a de-stressor, first and foremost," Obama told iVillage. "Barack and I work out every day. When he isn’t traveling, that's the first thing we do. So we spend time together in the morning."

Another chancy decision Obama regularly makes is wearing her designer outfits to multiple public appearances. While that doesn't seem out of the ordinary for most people, it's not a common practice among the oft-photographed famous. For instance, the first lady had already worn the Michael Kors gown she donned on Election Day 2012 two times in the past. We respect Obama more for her tendency to be both cost efficient and fashionable at the same time, and wish more celebrities and political figures would follow in her footsteps.
