Sesame Street will have a special guest to kick off its 40th anniversary on Nov. 10.
First Lady Michelle Obama will appear on the season opener of the children’s program to discuss the benefits of healthy eating and how to plant your own garden.
"All these seeds need to grow are sun, soil and water," she said during her appearance on the longest running children's program on television. "If you eat these healthy foods, you’re going to grow up to be big and strong, like me. I know you’re going to like these vegetables, because in addition to being healthy, they really taste great!"
The First Lady planted a vegetable garden on the South Lawn at the White House in March, the first at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue since Eleanor Roosevelt. The organic movement is something Obama has been heavily involved in since her husband, Barack, was elected President last November.
"It is truly an honor to have Mrs. Obama join us in our premiere show on this landmark 40th anniversary season,” said Carol-Lynn Parente, executive producer of Sesame Street. "I feel extremely privileged to produce the gold standard of children’s television, serving up our well-known favorite characters and parodies, while striving to create innovative stories and formats using the latest technologies."
Obama is just one of several A-list celebrities scheduled for the upcoming season of Sesame Street.
Cameron Diaz, Hugh Jackman, Eva Longoria, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jimmy Fallon and Elisabeth Hasselbeck are just some of the stars rubbing elbows with Big Bird, Elmo and Oscar the Grouch.
