Michelle Williams has been single for quite awhile -- and instead of bringing romantic dates to big Hollywood events, she always has her best gal pal Busy Phillipps by her side. But now it seems her BFF may have to make room for a new love in Michelle's life: funnyman Jason Segel.
According to Us Weekly, the Oscar nominee, 31, and the Muppets writer and star, 32, have fallen head-over-heels for each other.
"They are smitten and very serious," the source says of the duo.
The two were photographed taking a romantic walk together after a cozy meal at Frankie's Spuntino in Brooklyn on March 24. "He put his arm around her and made her laugh as they walked," says a witness. "[They] seemed very relaxed."
And if that wasn't enough evidence of the blossoming relationship, the How I Met Your Mother star was spotted bonding with Williams' 6-year-old daughter Matilda (whom she had with with the late Heath Ledger). In the photo, Segel watches closely as Matilda rides her scooter around her Brooklyn neighborhood.
The surprising new couple isn't as unexpected as it looks, considering the devoted single mother has known Segel for years. In fact, it was Williams' best friend (who's also Matilda's godmother) who introduced them. Phillipps became pals with Segel on the set of their short-lived series Freaks and Geeks before meeting Williams on Dawson's Creek.
The two reportedly took their relationship to the next level only recently. They dined at L.A.'s Chateau Marmont together on Feb. 27 and then shared another meal at West Hollywood's Comme Ca on March 16.
So will this turn out to be the real deal for the couple? Segel once told iVillage that he was looking to date "someone who's nice," so maybe Williams is his girl!
