We love The Godfather, too, but this is taking it a bit too far.
A new book about organized crime, Gerald Posner's Miami Babylon, claims that actor Mickey Rourke was so fascinated by the mob world, he created his own mini-mafia.
Posner says that Rourke's "mob" consisted of 13 friends, who were forced to swear loyalty and get Gaelic gang tattoos.
Rourke's ties to the gang world are also mentioned in Victoria Gotti's new autobiography, This Family of Mine. According to the book, Rourke become pals with the Gambino crime family in the mid-90s, and was even drinking with mob boss Junior Gotti when he was arrested by the FBI.
If the rumors are true, Rourke is continuing a tradition of Hollywood-mafia crossover that goes back as far as the '30s, when actress Lana Turner dated mobster Johnny Stompenado. Frank Sinatra's mob ties are legendary, and more recently, ex-mobster Tony Sirico rose to fame playing fictional mafioso Paulie Walnuts on The Sopranos.
As for Rourke, he's currently shooting a film in which he plays a real-life mafia hit man. Pure coincidence, we're certain.
