Since becoming a household name, Jersey Shore's Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino has done everything from releasing a rap single to creating a clothing line. But is the reality TV show's muscle man qualified to star in web series?
Apparently the folks over at YOBI.tv seem to think so.
The producers of the online channel have hired Sorrentino to take the reigns of their new show Random Talent, and thousands of competitors are vying for a shot to win a paid role opposite The Sitch.
"I can't wait to start filming the web series this summer," Sorrentino tells PopEater. "After doing reality TV, it'll be cool to get to play a character that's completely different from myself. Asher (Levin) has written a hilarious script. I'll be playing a hip-hop star who gets chosen to be a judge on an American Idol-style show. It's going to be a situation!"
Filmmaker K. Ashley Levin will write and direct Random Talent, "a spoof of TV talent shows."
"Mike will play the role of a famous hip-hop star who is asked -- begged, actually -- by the producer to be the lead judge," Levin says of the plot summary. "The burden of keeping Mike's character happy falls to the second judge, played by YOBILaugh Season One Winner Ben Green, who was sent from England (where the show originated) to create a successful US version based in Detroit."
"You all choose who should be famous pretty much with your votes," says Sorrentino, in a new promotional video.
One male and one female will be selected to star opposite the Jersey Shore legend, when the series begins filming in Michigan this summer.
The Sitch has been vocal about wanting to branch out from his reality TV roots, and this is a decent start. But, he'll have to put his acting dreams on hold just a bit, until he returns from filming the fourth season of Jersey Shore in Italy.
Yeah, we don't feel bad for him either.
