Miley Cyrus & Justin Bieber's New Song "Twerk" Brings Back Bad Memories of the Macarena

The pop stars' collaboration with Lil Twist has leaked online. Unfortunately, it's reminding us of other dance-inspired songs we could have done without

Are you sick of the word "twerk" yet? Thanks to Miley Cyrus, the dance craze is all over the news, in the Oxford English Dictionary -- and now, it's a Lil Twist single, also featuring Justin Bieber. The Miley-Justin-Twist collaboration "Twerk" has leaked online, and it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect. Check it out below!

Okay, we know that Miley "can't stop," but we're asking her to please give it a rest. We've all seen her shake her butt several hundred times now. The thrill is gone.

And as for Justin, he's hopping on a trend that's already played out. Who's really going to be psyched about this "Twerk" single? Middle school kids? Now there's an uncomfortable thought.

As proof that twerking is nothing new, we'd like to direct you to this timeline, which proves that the dance has been name-checked in hip-hop songs for 20 years. Or take a look at this (NSFW) video from two years ago, also called "Twerk," by rapper Lady. It has six-and-a-half million YouTube views.

The Miley Cyrus "twerk," however, is something different: a sanitized, clueless-white-girl version. Looking at the dancers in the Lady video, it's obvious that Miley is doing another thing entirely -- even though it's an attempt to copy what black hip-hop dancers have been doing for years. (Hence the racial controversy over Miley's new image.)

Regardless, we can take comfort in the fact that the Miley Twerk will be short-lived. Here are a few other dance crazes that really didn't deserve their own song -- and didn't stick around for long.

Dance Trend: The Macarena
Song: Los Del Rio, "Macarena"

Dance Trend: The Ketchup Song Dance
Song: Las Ketchup, "The Ketchup Song"

Dance Trend: The Achy Breaky Heart Line Dance
Song" Billy Ray Cyrus, "Achy Breaky Heart"

Come to think of it, that last example is probably all we really needed...
