The news Wednesday that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth got engaged May 31 came as a bit of a shock, considering the pair -- who struck up a romance while filming 2009's The Last Song -- are just 19 and 22, respectively. But the young lovebirds' families sure do seem excited.
Sources close to the couple confirmed to People that Billy Ray is not just putting up a front for the public. Apparently he genuinely does love Hemsworth, who has spent a lot of time bonding with the Cyrus clan over barbecues and other family events.
"Billy Ray loves Liam. He's happy his daughter has found the right guy," a source says. "The whole family loves Liam."
That certainly includes mom Miley's mom Tish, who tweeted Thursday: "Wow! All of the love pouring out for Miley and Liam is incredible! So happy for my precious baby girl and the love of her life!"
And it's not just the Cyrus family that's breaking out the bubbly to celebrate. Miley has spent plenty of time in Australia getting to know Liam's family, and the Hemsworths reportedly share the Cyruses' joy.
"They spend Christmas and other holidays together. They've been down to Australia," a source says of the couple.
Hemsworth popped the question on May 31 following three years of dating, presenting his No. 1 gal with a 3.5-carat Neil Lane diamond ring -- and Cyrus couldn't be happier.
"I'm so happy to be engaged," she told People, "and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam."
