Miley Cyrus Makes Fun of Herself and Her Past on 'SNL'

Saturday Night Live (NBC, Saturdays, 11:30 p.m. ET) tends to work best when it sticks to that old adage: "It's funny because it's true!" With Miley Cyrus hosting this past weekend, you had to wonder whether the show would take jabs at the cookie-cutter silliness of Disney Channel shows and the perky tweeny boppers (like Cyrus) who get famous off of them.

Happily, it did, and Cyrus played right along. In a sketch about the Disney Channel Acting School, teen stars Cyrus and Raven-Symoné (Kenan Thompson) gave tips to aspiring Disney Channel actors. "On the Disney channel every person has to be the loudest person in the room," they instructed. And "make sure your clothes are as loud and crazy as your acting!" True. And funny.

While many of the other skits fell flat, there was one highlight: The best sketch of the night was The Miley Cyrus Show, a regular skit starring Vanessa Bayer as Cyrus. Bayer played Cyrus in her usual, peppy, "pretty cool" way, while her guest Justin Bieber (Cyrus) tried too hard to impress her with his hip hop mannerisms. Speaking his signature moves out loud as he executes them -- "wink, cocky nod, point" -- he then gives props to his "swagger coach," who's prompting him from the sidelines.

Props should really go to Cyrus for playing along with the gag, while hilariously skewering Bieber (and mentioning her salvia scandal!) in the process. Heaven knows these two make enough money to roll with a joke at their expense!
