It was a great day to be Derek Jeter's girlfriend, as actress Minka Kelly -- who has been dating the Yankees captain for over two years -- watched her man make history on July 9. Jeter became the first Yankee to reach 3,000 hits, and Kelly was on hand to cheer on her man as he received tons of love from the crowd.
Wiping away tears, Minka watched as Jeter reached his milestone in style, hitting a homerun off of Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price. As he rounded the bases, the roar at Yankee Stadium was deafening. After reaching home plate and celebrating with his teammates, Jeter pointed up to the suite where Minka, 31, and his dad, Dr. Charles Jeter were sitting.
"It was thanks for all the support, to sum it up," Jeter told the Daily News. "Your family and friends are the ones that are closest to you and you appreciate all that support throughout the years. Today wasn't the first game they've been to. My dad tells me all the time he's had every at-bat with me. It's fun to acknowledge the people that mean the most to you."
Recent rumors said Kelly and Jeter got engaged and were ready to tie the knot, but the former Friday Night Lights star has shot down the wedding talk. "I promise you," the star told GQ in January, "I'm not getting married next month."
