Finally! Minnie Driver Reveals the Identity of Her Son's Father

The actress says that a writer on her old FX TV series The Riches is the dad to her 3-year-old son Henry

Minnie Driver gave birth to her son Henry Story in 2008, but has kept the identify of his father a secret -- until now. In an interview with The Observer, the 42-year-old actress breaks her silence, revealing that 3-year-old Henry's father was a writer on her FX drama, The Riches.

"I don't need to protect him anymore," she says, although she declines to give the writer's name. " He can fend for himself. He's a grown-up."

As for why she's kept the secret for so long, Driver, who announced her pregnancy on the Tonight Show, explains, "We weren't together and he wasn't directly in the business, so I chose to protect him and not have a rain of publicity."

Unfortunately, Minnie's attempt to dodge publicity backfired, and the press became obsessed with the mystery of her baby daddy.

"I know," she admits, "but it's ridiculous. He's not famous. There's no big story."

Although the actress stops short of actually naming the man in question, she's actually narrowed down the field to just a few possibilities; most of the episode writers on The Riches were women. (If you want to speculate, you can see a list of writing credits here; there are two male series writers, including the married show runner, and one male writing intern.)

So is Henry's father a part of his life now? It sounds like the jury is still out on that question; when asked if he's a good dad, Driver responds, "Sort of."

"He's figuring it out... I mean, he hasn't been that involved; his choice," says Driver. "But he is now."

The actress, whose latest project is the indie musical film Hunky Dory, says she's grateful to motherhood for taking her head out of the "very selfish business" of Hollywood. Still, she has ambitions to do more films -- and hopefully find a job that fits her single-mom schedule.

"I still want an Oscar, and to work with Danny Boyle and Martin Scorsese -- of course I want all of that," she declares. "But what I really, really want to do is another U.S. TV series. I do. I want that life. I want a regular paycheck. And I want to be able to know when I can pick up Henry from school."

In particular, there is one TV series she'd love to be a part of: Glee.

"Oh, I've been trying to get on that show since, well... God knows. I know, I'm not scared to say it!" laughs Driver. "Gwyneth Paltrow completely stole my thunder!"
