The Brady Bunch. Jon & Kate Plus 8. Saved by the Bell. Full House…what do they have in common? They've all taken a ratings-boosting trip to Hawaii!
This Wednesday, add ABC's Modern Family (Wednesday, 9 p.m. ET) to that illustrious list. But don't expect this show's witty, sardonic writers to have any cursed tiki idols in mind for the hapless Pritchett/Dunphy clan. Just being who they are is a curse in itself.
"Basically, Phil [Ty Burrell] and Claire [Julie Bowen] are trying to use this opportunity to have the honeymoon they didn't get to have the first time around," Burrell told eonline. "So they're just running from the kids, trying to have some alone time."
Naturally, this just frees up teen-aged Haley (Sarah Hyland) to get drunk for the first time, while tween Luke (Nolan Gould) and his step-uncle--and fellow tween--Manny (Rico Rodriguez) are left to their own, contentious devices. Oh, and this sneak peek doesn't bode well for Jay (Ed O'Neill)—the birthday boy for whom the trip's been planned.
Well, maybe baby Lily will have fun. For the time being, the term "dysfunctional family" still means nothing to her.
