A trip to the pool on a hot summer day went from going, well, swimmingly, to causing some heated controversy when Charlotte Dirkes was asked to refrain from breast-feeding her 10-month-old son in the kiddie pool at Pirates Cove water park in Englewood, Colo. Dirkes tells Denver's ABC affiliate that guest complaints led staff to ask the mom to "stop, cover up or go somewhere private." Pirates Cove has since apologized, according to the network, but the news sparked a debate on Facebook (and in the iVillage community!) between breastfeeding advocates and those who say Dirkes should have fed her baby elsewhere out of respect for others and the possibility that breast milk (a bodily fluid) might get in the water.
