Mom Steals $10,000 from Daughter's Girl Scout Troop
One Georgia troop leader didn't think "scout's honor" applied to her. According to The Huffington Post, Darlene Jo Lewis, 49, was arrested for allegedly stealing nearly $10,000 from her daughter's Girl Scout Troop. Lewis, who had been the treasurer and co-leader of Douglasville, GA's Troop 798, is charged with using funds raised by the scouts to make purchases at Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and a Christian bookstore. She also spent some of the embezzled money on a senior dating service called SeniorPeopleMeet.com. Lewis' transgressions were discovered when a new troop leader found irregularities in the financial records. What's worse than skimming money intended to pay for a bunch of girl scouts' outings and trips? Lewis' embezzling forced the troop to close completely due to lack of funds.
