First rule about talking about the baby weight? Don't talk about the baby weight. A rule that mom of three and fitness enthusiast Maria Kang learned the hard way after a Facebook photo she'd posted of herself last year looking incredibly fit in a workout bra (holy abs) and teeny shorts posing with her boys went viral. The issue? Her caption, "What's Your Excuse?"
Much of the feedback she's received on Facebook has been positive.
"Girl you look good! You be proud having 3 kids and staying fit!"
"You look beautiful good for you."
However, other commenters were angered by it, questioned if she had a nanny, a job or was a personal trainer.
"Hmmm -- Kudos to her accomplishments. Wonderful photos for inspiration. However, her insinuation of "your excuse?" completely cancels the positive message. An empathic comment would have proved more effectual; 'It's possible, It's hard, but you can do it!'"
"You could have done a lot more good with a supportive, "You can do it" message, rather than a snarky one. Women should support other women. Your words were not encouraging when they could have been."
Kang posted an "apology" on her Facebook page and provided answers on her blog, sharing that she did not mean to, intimidate, but to inspire. She does work full-time, does not have a nanny, but gets up early to work out. Even though she posted the photo a year ago, according to Yahoo Shine, she noticed that it was being shared a lot more recently. (The image has over 17,000 shares right now.)
We're not sure what our excuse is, but her image certainly has a struck a chord. What do you think?
