Morgan Freeman is taking the offensive when it comes to confronting rumors about his alleged engagement to his step-granddaughter -- who just happens to be 45 years his junior.
One of Hollywood's most distinguished actors, Freeman addressed speculation that he and E'Dena Hines -- the granddaughter of Freeman's first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw -- are engaged to be married.
The Academy Award winner, 74, split from his second wife, Myrna Colley Lee, in 2008 amid speculation of adultery and an unsubstantiated decade-long relationship with Hines, 29 -- according to a National Enquirer story.
"The recent reports of any pending marriage or romantic relationship of me to anyone are defamatory fabrications from the tabloid media design to sell papers," Freeman said in a statement obtained by E! News. "What is even more alarming is that these fabrications are now being [picked up] by the legitimate press as well."
Hines also spoke out, adding: "These stories about me and my grandfather are not only untrue, they are also very hurtful to me and my family."
Although Hines refers to Freeman as her grandfather, the two are not related by blood, and she was born after he and her grandmother were divorced. The Million Dollar Baby star and his first wife divorced after 12 years of marriage in 1979.
