8. Guacamole Deviled Eggs
We saw a lot of riffing on deviled eggs in 2013, but this version with creamy avocado and a sprinkle of Spanish paprika was the most imaginative and, of course, tasty. Try five other delicious new takes on the picnic classic.
7. Popeyes Chicken & Waffle Tenders
Chicken now comes fried in waffle batter. Thanks Popeyes!
6. Bacon and, um, Everything
Bacon in cookies… bacon around hotdogs… even bacon dipped in Nutella. This was the year bacon fatigue set in for a lot of us, but the little pork product that could kept on pounding away at our arteries -- and we loved it.
5. Slutty Brownies
Basically, it's an Oreo cookie sandwiched between layers of brownie and cookie dough. Seriously, doesn't that just sound like a foodgasm? And they're super easy, of course.
4. Dorito's Taco
The spicy crunch of the orange-tinted Dorito shell paired with traditional Taco Bell fillings is so good we can't believe they just came up with it.
3. Ramen Burger

This burger with a bun made out of ramen noodles (boiled, then fried) made its debut in Brooklyn this year, but quickly went nationwide, with creator Keizo Shimamoto taking his mash-up on tour across the country.
2. Cronut Knock-Offs
Faux Cronuts and the people who thought they were the real deal were as much of a story in 2013 as the mythical pastry itself. Almost every major city had a bakery with some kind of Cronut-like pastry. Someone in Worcester, Massachusetts, even sent us a Dosant (it was very delicious, thank you).
1. The Cronut

Created by NYC baker Dominique Ansel, the Cronut kicked off 2013's mix-up craze. And while the croissant-doughnut hybrid madness has dwindled, there are still Craigslist postings looking for people to pick up the pastries in the wee hours of morning before they sell out.
