The Percentage of Clothes You Will Buy and Never Wear Is...

Survey finds the average woman has more than $500 of unworn fashion items

If the phrases, “But it was such a great sale I had to buy it,” “If I just lose 10 pounds it will totally fit” or “Hey, if it doesn’t fit, I can always return it,” are part of your regular lexicon, you might, like most women, have a tidy sum of unworn clothing collecting dust in your closet.

The Huffington Post reports a recent survey by the U.K. company VoucherCloud finds, on average, ladies own $550 worth of fashion items that have never been worn.

Additionally, according to the website, most women say 20 percent or more of their closets are filled with never-worn pieces, with coats and shoes most often never shedding their tags.

What’s up with that? Seventy-five percent of those surveyed say they just like something else more; 51 percent say their friends or significant others didn’t like what they bought; and 39 percent said the “couldn’t be bothered” to make a return, HuffPo notes.

With spring cleaning lists being made, perhaps a wardrobe sweep is in order. At the least, a little consignment cash could allow you to do more shopping for things you’ll never actually wear – we mean, will totally wear wear once you start that diet.
