Move Over, Cronut: Here Comes the Crookie!

Double Stuf Oreo cookies and croissant dough combine for the newest dessert craze

Let's recap: County fair-style fried gluttony is the new name of the game in dessert trends. The sweeter, more over-the-top the better — and croissant dough is definitely the key ingredient.

The croissant-donut hybrid known as the cronuta craze that is currently sweeping the nation—set the standard for such outrageous sweets. And now there's a new entry vying for attention in the impossibly-delicious-and-bad-for-you arena. That concept is known as the crookie—croissant dough stuffed with crushed Double Stuf Oreos. (Yes, please!)

Oliver Jansen-Reynaud, who owns Clafouti Patisserie et Cafe, came up with the idea for the confection when Toronto publication The Grid TO posed the challenge to come up with a two-ingredient masterpiece.

“I’m a big kid at heart, and Oreos are one of my favorites—they’re such a classic,” Jansen-Reynaud told the pub. “We tried several shapes and sizes, and had to be careful combining the different textures and letting the dough rise slowly so the cookies’ cream would not ooze out.”

Um, yum.

We're going to experiment with making this at home, maybe try tucking Oreos into crescent rolls. How about you?
