Remember Bristol Palin? Daughter of SarahPalin. Dancing with the Stars contestant. Reality show starlet. Teen mother. Well, it looks like she's adding another title to her resume -- blogger. And, in the style of her very own Mama Grizzly, she's takiing to the internet to challenge President Obama.
No, she's not getting into any economic policy. But she's a little ticked off that the president hasn't called to apologize to her the way he did with Sandra "Rush Limbaugh called me a slut" Fluke. Bristol has jumped on the bandwagon of attacking the president for not backing away from comedian Bill Maher, who has not only insulted her mother, but has made a few choice anti-woman comments against Bristol, as well. Since Maher at some point made a contribution to one of the super PACs that supports the president, Bristol and others are laying whatever comedic barbs Maher has ever tossed out at Obama's feet, claiming that he owes them all apologies for Maher's behavior.
In her post entitled, Mr. President, When Should I Expect Your Call?, Bristol explains that since the president was upset about what Limbaugh's comments said to girls like his daughters, that he ought to be concerned about her, as well:
"Bill Maher has said reprehensible things about my family. He's made fun of my brother because of his Down's Syndrome. He said I was "f---d so hard a baby fell out." ... If Maher talked about [your daughters] Malia and Sasha that way, you'd return his dirty money and the Secret Service would probably have to restrain you. After all, I've always felt that you understood my plight more than most because your mom was a teenager. That's why you stood up for me when you were campaigning against Sen. McCain and my mom -- you said vicious attacks on me should be off limits."
Bristol is clearly channeling some old hurt and pretending to be all confused that the President isn't calling to convey his apologies for every crass and crude insult made against her family by those he has no control over. But does she have a point? If the President is going to wade into the waters of commenting on the horrible slurs of one entertainer, is he obligated to do it in the name of his daughters for everyone else? That would take up a lot of his day and I think he probably has a few other things on his agenda.
Bristol acknowledges that Barack Obama came to her defense at one time, so I'm not sure he's obligated to call her now, years after the fact. Sounds like Bristol is taking a page out her mom's playbook and finding the opportunities to slam a political opponent as they arise.
Or maybe she's just trying to get as much attention as possible for some good first night ratings for her new show.
