MTV Video Music Awards: Who Were the Night's Big Winners?

Chris Brown, One Direction and Rihanna all went home winners! See which other artists walked away with a Moonman

Rihanna beat her best friend Katy Perry for the top Moonman at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. The singer, who opened Thursday night's show with a sexy remix of her hit single "Cockiness," snagged the award for video of the year for her epic dance anthem "We Found Love."

"My fans, thank you so much for voting," RiRi said to her supporters as host Kevin Hart hollered his approval. "I love you. It's me and y'all 'til we go."

Other winners included Chris Brown, with his second consecutive win for best male video; Nicki Minaj, who looked stunned by her best female video win; and Drake, who dedicated his best hip hop video award to any kid who has ever felt different, like he did growing up in Toronto.

"The video, it's about being me. Being black and Jewish. I went to this house party one time, and when I showed up there, it was a bunch of kids and I ended up getting made fun of," he recalled. "I want to dedicate this award to any kid that's ever had a long walk home by yourself, you know what I'm saying? This is to you man for real. We made it."

But it was British boy band One Direction who earned the most female screams. The handsome singers not only performed for the first time, but they also took home two awards at their debut VMAs: best new artist and best pop video. The adorable quintent couldn't contain their excitement while accepting their trophies.

"Massive thank you to each and every one of you in here tonight and all of our fans, friends, family and also the people who work with us day in and day out," Zayn said before handing the microphone to Harry.

"To win one Moonman is amazing, to win two is incredible, and to perform is absolutely ridiculous. Thank you so much for having us," Harry added.
