Open the new book Much Loved by photographer Mark Nixon and prepare to be hit with a wave of nostalgia. For me, it was the memory of my two favorite childhood toys: Pooh Bear and Fat Baby -- both of which I still own, and (carefully) let my children play with. As a parent, these photos make me happy that both of my kids have special buddies of their own. I know in my heart that we’ll own Woof-Woof and Duckie forever, just like the owners of the beloved toys in this book. Don’t be surprised if you go grab an old friend, dust it off, and give it a hug after seeing these photos.
Aisling Hurley’s 24-Year-Old Pink Teddy
Mark NixonAisling clearly had some great times with her pink teddy bear. I bet if she hung out with him again, that frown would turn upside-down!
Calum Nixon’s 10-Year-Old Peter Rabbit
Mark NixonCan’t you just see Peter Rabbit and Calum cuddled up in bed, reading about Peter’s adventures in Mr. McGregor’s carrot patch? Giggles way past bedtime, I’m sure.
Conor and Sarah Owens’ 46-Year-Old Bugs
Mark NixonThankfully, a child’s imagination can find something to love in the creepiest of toys. They just don’t make ‘em like they used to. You be you, Bugs!
Gerry Ryan’s 55-Year-Old One-Eyed Ted
Mark NixonHe’s also one-eared, and one-armed, but that didn’t stop One-Eyed Ted from becoming a cherished member of the family. Gerry has passed away, and now his daughter looks after Ted.
Lua Spencer’s 6-Year-Old Flopsie
Mark NixonPoor Flopsie! How did you get a boo-boo on your leg? Probably jumping up and down on the bed with little Lua, right? Good thing she was there to fix you right up!
Mark Nixon’s 50-Year-Old Panda
Mark NixonThe author includes his own much-loved gem, Panda. And who can blame him? Look at that fuzzy face, and those open arms. Just begging for one more hug!
Melissa Noland’s 104-Year-Old Edward
Mark NixonSure, he’s missing some fur and his mouth hangs askew, but that bowtie says it all: Edward has been a loyal friend and a class act from the beginning.
Shane Haher’s 34-Year-Old Bobo
Mark NixonTime hasn’t dulled Bobo’s bright blue coat, not one bit. We’re happy to report that Bobo is still in circulation -- he cuddles up with Shane’s 9-year-old daughter every night.
Sofie Ferrell’s 10-Year-Old Gerry the Giraffe
Mark NixonSofie literally loved the stuffing out of Gerry, but he’s hanging in there. He still plays music when you pull his string, and that hand-knit sweater is keeping him warm.
Tom O’Conor Jr’s 6-Year-Old Beary
Mark NixonWhen it comes to bedtime, Beary obviously has it covered. Don’t let the cute jammies fool you, though. I have a feeling Beary can chase away the scariest of closet monsters.
